Hey everyone! My name is Candice and I’m a new teacher here at Globe working at the Shinjuku branch in Tokyo!
I was born and raised (mostly) in Toronto, Canada, but also spent 6 years living in Singapore between the ages of 2-8. My dad is from Singapore and my mom is from Hong Kong, so I can speak a little bit of Cantonese and Mandarin (very, very, very little).
I first came to Japan 3 years ago on a 4 month long trip and worked my way down from Sapporo to Okinawa, doing various types of volunteering along the way. I enjoyed myself so much that I promised myself I’d come back to Japan eventually to work, so here I am! I’ve been in Tokyo for about one year now. My previous job was similar to Globe; I worked at an adult Eikaiwa in Roppongi but we focused on conversation skills and American pronunciation.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking, watching Mukbangs, hiking, attempting to skateboard, doing a bi-weekly podcast with my friends from my hometown, and drinking Japanese sake. Actually, I used to work at a Japanese sake bar in Toronto. My favourite region for sake is the Fukushima region.
I’ve been working at Globe for about 3 weeks now, and am really enjoying meeting and working with the staff and students. All of you have been so amazing, and I really look forward to my time here!
See you around!
